Join us for two days of creativity, connection, and hands-on learning! DIY Theatre’s Weekend of Workshops offers something for performers, theatre-makers, and behind-the-scenes enthusiasts alike.

Saturday, September 6
Coffee and Convo - 9:30am - 10:00am
Join us before our workshops kick off for some coffee & conversation! This is a casual networking and socializing opportunity to chat with us, other workshop attendees and facilitators! Included in the cost of your ticket and open to anyone attending ANY of the workshops!
Mock Auditions* with Samantha McKenna-Currie - 10:00am - 12:00pm
A great opportunity to test out new or existing audition material in a low stakes/low stress environment. Participants will perform a monologue and/or song and will receive feedback on their performance from professional actor and director Samantha McKenna-Currie!
Participants should have an up-tempo song and a ballad as well as a monologue of their choosing and a recording of the accompaniment. A speaker will be made available.

LUNCH BREAK 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Swordplay* with Rico Pfeiffer - 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Get ready for some fun with swords! In this workshop, participants will be led through some exercises, drills and maybe even a little choreography!

The World of Intimacy with Anastasia St Amand - 10:00am - 12:00pm
Are you an Arts Administrator or Production team member curious about Intimacy Direction? Join our workshop and learn more about what an Intimacy Director can offer! We'll chat about best practices, industry challenges, union guidelines, and the benefits of engaging an Intimacy Director, one of the newest roles in the industry.

Behind the Seams: Inside Theatre Wardrobe Production & Presentation with Vanessa Taylor - 3:15pm - 5:15pm
A fun and creative workshop designed to provide participants with an in-depth look at how theatre wardrobe departments function—and how to prepare and present costume designs for a production.

We recommend bringing a water bottle with you and comfortable clothes. If you are registering for Swordplay, please bring/wear clean indoor shoes.
MEET THE FACILITATORS
Anastasia St. Amand
Intimacy Director
Anastasia is an Intimacy Director, Intimacy Coordinator, and Fight Director. She treasures teaching and directing movement for actors by relating it to media, dance, and nature while maintaining a sense of joy, and collaboration. Anastasia is certified in Mental Health First Aid, and Psychological First Aid, and Standard First Aid. Anastasia works with Principal Intimacy Professionals across western Canada on a variety of theatre, film, and television projects and is the Workshop Committee Chair for the National Society of Intimacy Professionals.
Samantha Currie -
Director & Performer
Samantha is a graduate of The American Music and Dramatic academy in New York City, theatre has always been an important part of her life. A resident of Calgary, she has toured to stages across Canada and the US.
As a actor, director, instructor, and choreographer, she knows that finding one’s confidence and joy in music and theatre can make for lasting memories and exciting life moments.

Vanessa Taylor
Costume Designer
Vanessa Taylor studied Professional Theatre Production in Montreal at John Abbott College. She’s traveled to various resorts in the Caribbean as a costumiere and has done contract work for Cirque du Soleil.
